Here's to You on your Birthday, Norma,

and to the Disney Magic You Have In Your Soul!

To "Normie Dunes" on Her Birthday - August 17, 2015

If I were to wake up early on your birthday and run down to your RV with a sparkly gift bag

with crisp pink tissue paper peeking out,

And if you opened it up to find a silver tiara inside,  (not the kind you can buy at Target,

but an official quality tiara from Disney);

And if I then took you out for breakfast to a restaurant where you’d wear the tiara just because

it would be fun - and the waiter would ask if it was your birthday, and I'd smile as you'd tell

him I was taking you to Disneyland for the very first time in your life...

And if I then drove you to Disneyland and like a delighted kid watch as they took your

first Disneyland ID picture...
If I was patient with you after you lost your ticket almost 15 minutes after we arrived

and just laughed it off and kept on with our plan;

If I were to spend the day  -  the whole, whole, whole day with you on all the rides

I’ve been on dozens of time before - the  Jungle cruise in Adventure land, the Indiana Jones

Adventure, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad…

And if I sat with you and watched you laugh at the talking parrots in the Enchanted Tiki Room,

and then took you in to the auditorium to watch an animated President Lincoln recite the

Gettysburg Address that I had heard umpteenth times before.

And  if  I played Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters with you even though I know, by heart,

every new image that ride would flash before my eyes;

If I were to arrange with the park days ahead, for you to be the captain of the Mark Twain

Riverboat Ride where you would stand on the Captain's deck and clang the bell and "steer" the boat';

If I rode with you on the teacups because the teacups were the one  childhood image you had

of  Disneyland,
And if,  before the ride started,  a giggling-me were to say, "Let's  throw up our hands and

pretend we're spinning our heads off, like on a screaming Tilt-a-Whirl  so the guys can

take a picture we can have forever."

And if after all of that, I were to take you to watch Fantasmic just before Disneyland Park closes;

If  then, after a long, long day at Disneyland, but with energy to spare, I'd drive back with you to

your RV, and I would hug you and simply tell you that I hoped you had a wonderful birthday...

If I were that kind of person – that  extraordinary kind of generous friend whose joy came from

others’ joy, who took delight in others’ delight,  who had an exceptional capacity of caring

                                   If I were that person – then, of course, I would be YOU !
                                                – and (as all of us who love you know) ...
